Welcome to the Jungle, Baby!

NYX Jungle - no flash
You may be familiar with the makeup line NYX, but did you know they had polishes too?  Most people do not, as they are usually not carried in the retail locations like Ulta who do carry the makeup.  I do not have many NYX polishes, but the two I have are fabulous! Today I am showing you NYX Jungle today was a gift from one of my favorite bloggers.

NYX Jungle -  flash
NYX Jungle is a gorgeous "mermaid-y" color that shifts from a dark blue to a medium jungle green, and has a beautiful golden shimmer that can be seen only in direct light.  The formula was perfect and covered in two coats, though I used three here, topped by Seche Vite.

NYX polishes can be purchased on line from Cherry Culture or directly from NYX's website.

Do you have any NYX polishes?
What are your favorite NYX products, polish or otherwise?

Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Runway Collection: Recap

Sally Hansen Tracy Reese 2011

I have done a few separate posts on the Tracy Reese polishes so far, and I have a few more to show you today!  For those of you not familiar Tracy Reese, she is an American fashion designer that collaborates with Sally Hansen every year to come up with a Runway Collection.  I purchased four colors:  Coral Fever, Barracuda, Without a Stitch, and Delphinium.

Sally Hansen Barracuda (Tracy Reese 2011)
Barracuda

Sally Hansen Barracuda (Tracy Reese 2011)

Beautiful color.  However, I wish the color on the nail was as light as the color in the bottle.

Sally Hansen Without A Stitch (Tracy Reese 2011)
Without a Stitch

Sally Hansen Without A Stitch (Tracy Reese 2011)

Easy to apply nude. I liked that it didn't disappear into my skintone.

Sally Hansen Delphinium (Tracy Reese 2011)
Delphinium

Sally Hansen Delphinium (Tracy Reese 2011)

So pretty!  Perfect color, on trend and yet non-polish addicts can love it too.

Sally Hansen Coral Fever (Tracy Reese 2011)
Coral Fever

Sally Hansen Coral Fever (Tracy Reese 2011)

There are so many variants to the definition of 'coral.'  I love the fresh, orangey-coral used here.

If you are still looking, I have seen displays at Walgreens, CVS, Target, Rite Aid, and Walmart.

Did you pick up any of the Tracy Reese polishes?
Is there one I didn't show that you think I should check out?

Polishes You Can't Have - Illamasqua Raindrops

I dedicate this post to Elvira and Joeybunny, who love to show us beautiful yet unattainable taupes and long lost blushes.

This is one of three polishes that were released as a result of Illamasqua's Nail Varnish Competition last year.
Illamasqua is asking self-expression enthusiasts everywhere to submit a description of their dream nail varnish colour, for a chance to make it a reality.

Run in conjunction with luxury retailer, Selfridges, this incredible competition gives nail varnish fans the world over the opportunity to push the imaginative boundaries further than ever before. So are you ready to design your very own perfect shade?

Two lucky winners will see their dream colour created and sold exclusively at illamasqua.com and Selfridges in London, Manchester and Birmingham from October 2010.

In the close up above, you can see the flakes in the polish that make Raindrops special.  The base is a light grey jelly.  I used 4 coats to obtain this level of opacity (normally I would have stopped at three, but there are readers who do not enjoy looking at a visible nail line).  I actually think it would look better with less coats myself.  =)

If you are a lover of greys, jellies, or Illamasqua polishes in general, find yourself a lovely Brit willing to pick one up for you!  Thanks Seddon!  MWAH!

Makeup Monday - Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Lipstick

09/25/2011 UPDATE:
This brand is now at Sephora!  My store is not carrying it but it is available online!!! I don't see the lipsticks listed yet,but they might be on their way!

Let me first start of by saying I was lucky enough to come across these lipsticks at a "rummage sale."  I paid $0.25 each for them!  Yes, you read that right, a quarter.  I didn't know much about the brand, but of course I bought them anyways, and tried them out as soon as I got in the car!  I found them to be a subtle yet beautiful wash of color.  Most importantly, they felt good on.  Now I just needed to research the brand!

BE02 Coral Beige, PK02 Coral Pink

Koh Gen Do just celebrated its 25th anniversary, but like me you may not have heard of it.  This is because the brand was started in a small salon in Tokyo.  It was started by a Japanese actress who wanted an organic skincare line for her own sensitive skin.  It quickly became popular among other actresses and professional makeup artists.

BE02 Coral Beige, PK02 Coral Pink

Koh Gen Do then branched out into makeup and then hair care.  Keeping with the principals used to create her skincare, none of these additional lines contain petroleum-based ingredients, artificial fragrances or colors - only an abundance of natural ingredients.  They are also free of composite pigments and mineral oil.

From their website:
KohGenDo believes that makeup should be something the skin is delighted with. Rather than creating attractive products full of artificial fragrance and composite pigments, we avoided such unnecessary ingredients that are a burden to the skin.

BE02 Coral BeigePK02 Coral Pink

About the Maifanshi Lipsticks:
As we age our lips can begin to lose vibrancy, resulting in a tired appearance. Adding color to lips is a simple and quick beauty shortcut that can dramatically change the way you look. This light and sheer lipstick wears smooth and soft, like a lip cream. It protects lips from dryness and damaging agents like the wind and the environment. Your lips will become healthier the more often you use it.

Wow!  Little did I know when I spent less than $1 I was getting a high-end, luxury lipstick with skincare ingredients!  I hope that in time I am able to purchase more from the line, as I find the lipsticks to be perfect "MLBB" and easy to apply on the go.  Without a thought I can apply these an know that my lips look great!

Koh Gen Do cosmetics can be found at Barneys New York (BE02 Coral Beige is here and PK02 Coral Pink is here) or purchased directly from http://www.kohgendocosmetics.com.  I also highly recommend that you check out swatches of additional shades of Maifanshi Lipstick on The Beauty Look Book.

Nails Inc coming to Sephora in August

Nails Inc, the nail manicure and cosmetics business founded by former fashion journalist Thea Green, is heading to America.
Ms Green, who received an MBE for her work in the beauty industry last week, has teamed up with LVMH-owned Sephora, which sells branded beauty products and fragrances. Nails Inc products will be sold in nearly 200 shops in the US and Canada from August.
The company will soon reveal figures for 2010 showing turnover of £15m and like-for-like sales growth for its 2009-10 financial year of 14 per cent. Set up in 1999, Nails Inc was based on the US-style fashion for nail bars and the "15 minute manicure" and now has 60 outlets in Britain.
Ms Green said: "There couldn't be a better time to expand into the US. The states is the home of nails. We are more fashion forward than most of the established brands and our products have traded very well through the recession."
Nails Inc has also agreed a tie up with US department store Henri Bendel to open pop up stores.

What do you think, lacquerheads?
I personally love the Nails Inc line, I only have about 6-7 that I have received in swaps.

There were some concerns that Chanel Peridot would not be a true duochrome.
Let me put those fears to rest.
It is.  Amen.

Once I got Chanel Graphite (pinky) on my nail I realized the Dior Silver Pearl  was not a good match, so I swapped it out for Dior Timeless Gold.  More to come!
