Born Pretty Polish Review

UPDATE!  I was given a special discount code for polish insomniac readers!  Get 10% off with coupon code JBJ61!

Hi Lacquerheads!  Today I am reviewing a polish that was sent to me by Born Pretty.  I am sure many of you have heard of them before, but if you haven't, here is the deal!  Born Pretty is a very reliable website that is located in Hong Kong that sells wholesale nail art and cosmetics.  They started as an eBay store, which you can check out here.  In fact their eBay store has had a "top seller" rating since April 2010.  They then opened their online retail store, www.bornprettystore.com at the end of 2010

Before I was contacted by Jayce I had placed a few orders with them myself.  I generally do not review websites, but since I had been happy with my previous customer service I happily agreed!  I was allowed to pick out a nail polish to review, and I picked a green shimmer polish.  When I received it, I was blown away by the bottle!  I loved the shape.  Then I realized why I love the shape:

It's a dupe of a CND bottle!  I actually really like CND bottles, so I was very pleased.  It even had the same wide, flat brush!

I am happy to say that the polish does not contain toluene, formaldehyde, or DPB.

Online the shade is listed as a "shimmer polish."  On the bottle it is called "Crystal Sand Nail Color."
Translation?  It is a foil!  A gorgeous foil, actually.  I had a hard time capturing the green color accurately.  The picture above is the most color accurate.

Like most foils, it was easy to apply.  I cannot comment on the wear time, as I only wore it for about 36 hours.  I am happy to stain there was no staining, and it was actually easier to remove than most foils.

Born Pretty does a lot of promotions.  You can almost always receive a free gift!  I have a Hello Kitty fauxnad from them - I didn't even pay shipping!  You can check it out here.  They have an active Facebook page, and a pretty cool Rewards Program.  In fact, you can get these Hello Kitty nail art stickers for FREE set by liking them on Facebook!

If you are looking for fun nail art items, I definitely suggest you check them out.  Please note they appear to manufacture their own items, so you will not find any "name brand" items on their site.

Have you ordered from Born Pretty before?  What items did you receive that you liked?

OPI Dusty Week: Glacier Bay Blues (picture heavy)

OPI Glacier Bay Blues
2004 Canadian collection

This was the first OPI I really truly fell in love with.  The duochrome effect is quite stunning.  Indoors it appears to be indigo blue with faint green edges.  Outside the duochrome is much more apparent!  I love the formula, it is very easy to work with and requires hardly any cleanup.  This is show with three coats, plus base and top coat.

OPI Dusty Week: Ocean Love Potion

OPI Ocean Love Potion
2002 Surf Party Collection

Ocean Love Potion from OPI (not to be confused with SEPHORA by OPI Nail Colour Ocean Love Potion, which is a creme) is not for the nail polish faint of heart.  If I had tried this when I was a "noob" (aka newbie) I would hated it.  Why do you ask?  Because this was FIVE coats.  Five.

As a lover of old black label polishes, I of course love this one too, no matter how hard it is to use.  You can see by enlarging the last two pictures, how beautiful it is!  A silvery-green-blue shimmer, much like seafoam or ocean spray.  This is the color of water where mermaids belong.

OPI Dusty Week: Jasper Jade

OPI Jasper Jade
1996 Rocky Mountain Collection

Jasper Jade is the oldest polish I own (I think).  I wish I would have kept all my polishes from high school, I was obsessed with nails then too... Anywho, it is a deep, shimmery forest green.  The base is a deep emerald and the shimmer particles are more of a forest green.

I actually am not that impressed, and I am not sure why it is on so many people's wish lists.  Maybe because there were not many green polishes around back then?  At least not from OPI, or any other mainstream brand.  I know there were green Revlon Streetwear's!  Since I don't love it as much as I should I will be sending it to a new home in the Netherlands soon!
