My Favorite Tried and True Hair Products - From Bumble and bumble

All of the products I am sharing with you today are products I have purchased over and over again.  With that being said, I don't use the same products all year long!  In the summer I use products that encourage my curls.  In the winter I use products that help me dry my hair quickly without losing volume.

All year long I do as much as possible to protect my hair color.  I try to be sulphate and silicone free as much as possible, but I have not yet manged to be completely silicone free - I still reach for my Moroccan Oil Light once in awhile!  Also, since my scalp is oily I tend to use lighter weight products, nothing that will turn into an oil slick on my forehead!

A note about why I have SO MANY Bumble and bumble products on my list:  I used to move.  A lot.  I have found the easiest way for me to find a stylist I like is to find a salon that sells Bumble and bumble.  It might not be the smartest thing for me to do, but it is a good way to make sure the stylist with the scissors has at least heard of "continuing education."  I also like that the Bumble and bumble products are meant to be layered, giving you customized control of your hair.

Bumble and bumble Does It All Styling Spray
$25 for 10 oz.
$14 for 4 oz.
What it is:  A hair spray with strong yet flexible hold.
What it does:  This spray provides hair with workable, brushable hold for bending, molding, twisting, or lifting hair while shielding it from hot tongs, and irons. It's also fabulous for finishing any look.
What else you need to know:  Bumble and bumble hated smuggling in sprays from Europe, so they invented this one.
Ingredients:  Alcohol Denat., Hydrofluorocarbon 152a, Butyl Ester Of Pvm/Ma Copolymer, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Linoleamidopropyl Ethyldimonium Ethosulfate, Lauramidopropyl Betaine, Aminomethyl Propanol, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Fragrance (Parfum) .
This has been my favorite hairspray for 10 YEARS. I have tried multiple times to find a replacement for this hairspray. I end up spending more money paying for new products that I hate that sit in my closet than I would if I just bought it when I needed it!  I even tried those other "salon brands" they sell at Tar-get and Sephora (cough Fredric Fekkai, cough).  I was SO HAPPY when this line was brought to Sephora, atleast I would be earning Beauty Insider perks!  Bonus: It smells divine!

Bumble and bumble Grooming Creme
$26 for 5 oz.

$12 for 2 oz.
What it is:  A combination of natural oils makes this a magnificent styling moisturizer.
What it does:  This is the dream cream for those who love to look polished, elegant, and smooth but hate to work at it. It gives natural separation, subtle hold, and a soft, smooth low-glow satin finish.
What else you need to know:  The not-so-perfect, lived-in texture is loved by men, minimalists, and one-minute stylers.
Ingredients:  Water, Petrolatum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 60, Propylene Glycol, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Benzophenone-4, PEG-12 Dimethicone, PEG-10 Soy Sterol, Sorbitan Stearate, TEA-Carbomer, Diazolidinyl Urea, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Fragrance (Parfum) .
Um, yeah.  I did not know until just now that this marketed as a "men's grooming" product! Who new! I tend to use it when my hair is long (past my shoulders).  I really like to use this in the winter when my hair is dry, because it really cuts down the amount of time it takes to dry my hair (I have a LOT of hair).  I bought my full size bottle five years ago and I haven't finished it yet - a little goes a LONG way!  Note:  I also only apply it to the ends of my hair.

Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray$26 for 8 oz$9 for 2 oz.
What it is:  A setting spray with a moderate hold. What it does:This spray lifts and holds all hair types (thin, thick, or otherwise). Use it for for blow-drying, setting, protecting from heat, adding volume, lifting, controlling, and finishing any style. What else you need to know:  Use any time; after Prep or Tonic Lotion and before heated tools (or any sort of setting). Pair with Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner for a little more heft.
Ingredients:  Water, Alcohol Denat., Isopropanol, Vp/Va Copolymer, Polyquaternium-11, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, PPG-12-PEG-65 Lanolin Oil, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Chloride, Sorbic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Eugenol, Limonene, Fragrance .
I use it on my roots only as a thickening agent.  It really helps my oily roots!  I only have one piece of advice for you:  dry your hair immediately after applying this.  If you don't (and your hair doesn't air dry pretty) you will look like a Muppet.  Not a cute one, either!

Bumble and bumble Styling Lotion
$24 for 8 oz.
$8 for 2 oz.

What it is: A lightweight styling spray.
What it does:  This product lubricates, detangles, and gradually strengthens the hair. It gives hair soft, natural movement, light structure, and just the right base for a blowout.
Ingredients:    Water, Alcohol Denat., Isoceteth-20, Vinyl Caprolactam/Vp/Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Macrocystis Pyrifera (Kelp) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Wheat Amino Acids, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Biotin, Cysteine, Retinyl Palmitate, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Starch Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-7, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Limonene, Fragrance (Parfum)

I use this in the spring/summer when I want to blow out my hair.  I love that it does not wear my hair down - I can't feel it in my hair, but I can SEE the results!  Last time I bought the smaller 2 oz. bottle that is only $8, and it has lasted me two summers.

Do you use Bumble and bumble?
What are some of you favorite products?

Color Club Back to Boho, Part 2

Color Club's 2011 fall collection "Back to Boho" was inspired by the modern glam bohemian, clothing and trends. It contains 12 shades ranging from crèmes to duochrome foils. I have split it into two post, I hope you enjoy part two!  Part one can be seen here.

2011-09-20_15-47-17_870 (723x1024)

Color Club Boho Mojo

Such a pretty color.  To bad it is a frost – look at those brushstrokes!

Color Club Nouveau Vintage

Ooh!  A multicolored foil!  Totally made up for the frost!    It’s green, it’s brown, it’s red, it’s orange.  This shade is PERFECT fall shade.

Color Club Voodoo You Do

I really like Voodoo You Do – a cool emerald shimmer.  Above you can see it can look both forest green and emerald green, depending on the light.  This is fairly similar (but NOT a dupe) to OPI Jasper Jade.  I would imagine it was also similar to Illamasqua Viridian, but I can’t find my bottle to do a comp!

2011-09-23_14-26-21_710 (717x1024)

Color Club Artsy Crafty

If you love greens and crèmes you will love this.  Very smooth and shiny, this is two coats over a base (no top coat).

2011-09-23_15-04-21_69 (723x1024)

Color Club Blue-Topia

I have very high standards when it comes to dark blue polishes – I hate when they look black.  And, I hate when they similar like Easter Egg dye!  (Have you noticed that?  Yeah, that’s right.)  This one passes the black test and the smell test!  Very smooth and shiny, this is two coats over a base (no top coat).

2011-09-23_14-43-51_791 (723x1024)

Color Club Rebel Spirit

Are you sensing a theme with these crèmes?  Rebel Spirit is also very smooth and shiny!  Again this is two coats over a base (no top coat).  A very sexy burgundy crème.

If you purchase this collection as a set, you will receive all six shades plus “0-60 Top coat” basecoat.  I actually own this top coat, but I am not currently using it.

xoxo,

polish insomniac

Epic Mail Haul

2011-09-26_17-37-17_354 (800x377)

First up I received a lovely RAOK (random act of kindness) from my friend chocaddict, of the blog Mon Coin a Moua.  She sent me these polishes from her stash – all the way from France!  Thank you my love, you are in my thoughts!

2011-09-23_16-08-47_1772011-09-23_16-09-23_623

My second package was from Pink Sith - I recently won her Votre Vu giveaway!  She sent me one Bébé Duette clear Luxe Lips and one Bébé Duette with Luxe Lips Framboise (raspberry) in the caps of the hand crème.  A two-in-one product that includes both hand cream and lip balm!  My heart is all a flitter.  There is even little mirrors in the lids!

2011-09-26_17-29-09_296 (639x640)

The next package I received was AveYou/SaveMore order #1 = Nic’s Sticks in Silver-ella and Rainbow’s End!  These were from last Christmas (?) and are supposed to be wonderful!

2011-09-26_17-33-02_589 (800x555)2011-09-26_17-33-10_110 (800x600)

2011-09-26_17-33-54_760 (800x565)

My AveYou/SaveMore order #2 included two Halloween sets, two polishes from the Miss Universe collection, and two older polishes I had never heard of – I Lilac it Hot! and Nectarine Blast.

I was able to pay pennies on the dollar for my AveYou orders thanks to this deal from SaveMore.  I highly suggest you keep your eyes out for the next time AveYou is promoted - last time I found a similar deal on Groupon!

What have you received in the mail lately?

xoxo,

polish insomniac

Short 'n Sweet Question of the Week: What's Your Favorite Lipgloss?

I am starting a new fun series entitled "Short 'n Sweet Question of the Week"
My hope is for it to foster interaction between readers!
I encourage you to comment on each other's comments as well, you may be able to ask questions about products you have always wanted try =)

This is an easy one for me!
My favorite lipgloss is:

Tarte Vitamin-Infused Lipgloss
Apple-A-Day (above)
Nirvana (below)
My favorite shade hands down is Apple-A-Day.  It deepens my lip color and adds shimmer without being grainy or sticky!

I even prefer the small brush applicator, because it does not pick up too much product as the doe-foot applicators!

Here are both shades, swatched heavily.

So, back to the question:  What's Your Favorite Lipgloss???

There is no time limit to commenting on this post!  If you find this post on a later date, I would still love to hear your answer!

***Both of the Tarte product's featured in this post were prizes from a Giveaway hosted by BeautyInfoZone.  Prior to the giveaway I owned a deluxe sample of Apple-A-Day and used every last drop!  I was so happy when I won these prizes!!!***
