China Glaze On Safari ♥ Sneak Peak

China Glaze On Safari

Pin ItBased on the promo shots I was a little underwhelmed by the Fall 2012 China Glaze collection - so many deep reds and purples!  But I could not have been more excited by the four shades I was sent to review.  I already had three of the four on my wish list (Man Hunt, Jungle Queen & I’m Not Lion) and was surprised by how much I loved the fourth (Kalahari Kiss).

  • Man Hunt - a medium blue jelly, definitely darker than Revlon Royal

  • Kalahari Kiss - a smooth camel crème

  • Jungle Queen -  a deep purple “geige” very similar to Chanel Paradoxal

  • I’m Not Lion - a gold based micro glitter with small holographic particles

Next week I will have full swatches and a review for you, along with comparison pictures.  Until then, have a good weekend!

Dermelect ME Peptide-Infused Nail Color Treatment - Swatches and Review

Pin ItYesterday I told you how I was in love with the new Dermelect ME polishes, and today I am going to show you just how gorgeous they are!

Dermelect Above ItI saved the best for last - Above It

I wore these polishes for almost three weeks solid and I can tell they definitely made a difference in the strength of my nails.  I have been fighting the dreaded “peelies” since late Spring and the treatment has definitely allowed me to grow almost all of “peelies” out without incurring new ones.  My nails are also growing outrageously fast!  The other reason I know for sure that the treatment is helping is the fact that my nails are in great shape, but the skin around my nails is not - that’s what happens when you work retail and it’s almost Back To School time!  I can’t tell you how many cardboard boxes I have opened in the past month, and it sucks ALL of the moisture out of your hands.  Normally when my hands are dry my nails break very easily, but I have had zero breaks!  In fact I have been filing my nails down weekly because they have been growing so fast.

I tried these polishes so many ways - with a basecoat, without a basecoat, with a topcoat, without a top coat.  My favorite way to wear these polishes are directly without a base, topped of my with my trusty CND Air Dry.  I have been able to get a full five days without chipping like this - just minimal tip wear.  Being able to skip a basecoat and still getting the benefits of a treatment is AWESOME!

A few application tips:
  • The polish may seems thick, but don’t fight it!  The polish totally self levels and looks awesome.  Just paint slowly as not to flood your cuticles.
  • Because the polish is slightly thick, it’s easy to get too much polish on the brush.  Be sure to wipe the brush carefully before applying.  If you don’t get enough polish on the brush don’t worry - you can actually paint over wet polish immediately without cuticle drag!
  • Resist the urge to thin!  I added thinner to Above It the third time I wore it - yes I wore it three times!  The thinner negated the polishes ability to self level and it was an uneven mess.
Dermelect ME retails for $14 and is available on www.dermelect.com and C.O. Bigelow in NYC.
I love these polishes and I think they are worth every penny!

Dear Diary - I met a new polish, named Dermelect ME

May 28th, 2012
Dear Diary,
I just got a new product from Dermelect to try called ME and I am so excited!  Dermelect is a cosmeceuticals company, which means there is a lot of science behind their products.  From skin care to nail care, every product I have tried from them has worked.  I love all of the Dermelect products I have tried, especially their Launchpad - it truly changed my nails.  Now Dermelect is launch its own line of color polish, called "Me."  This new line of lacquers from Dermelect sounds very promising…  I am going to “give up” other polish brands for as long as I can to see if I can see a difference in the strength of my nails!  Wish me luck!!!

HOW IT WORKS
"The first coat instantly bonds to the nail, while the second fuses with the base coat to create a flexible web of color that resists chipping and improves brittleness (patent-pending technology). The ME colors combine fast drying, high shine, and a healthy ‘green’ dose of vitamins, peptides, and moisture, offering a colorful solution to the contemporary woman’s beauty concern—aging hands and nails. For best results, two coats are recommended."
BENEFITS
·    Strengthens weak, brittle nails
·    Restores nail flexibility
·    Helps nails resist chipping and splitting
·    Provides long-lasting, high shine and bold color
·    Water and detergent resistant
·    Protects against UV rays
·    DBP, Toulene, Formaldehyde, and cruelty FREE (no animal testing)

Dear Diary,
I am really glad I decided to go steady with Dermelect for awhile... I only cheated with another brand once in three weeks!  I tried these polishes so many ways - with a basecoat, without a basecoat, with a topcoat, without a top coat.  I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

My first attempt was just the polish - no basecoat and no topcoat.  That didn’t go to well, it smudged easily and the smooth surface didn’t last.  Next I tried it without a basecoat.  I used the pretty sky blue color called Above It.  Even though I didn’t use a basecoat, my uneven nail beds disappeared under the polish, I used three coats and it was gorgeous!  I loved it so much I posted it on Instagram:

The polish lasted so well without a basecoat, I couldn’t believe it!  I wore it for 4 days strait and it never chipped!

These polishes self-level like no other polishes I have ever seen.  Even if you have to go back over a spot, which normally causes a ridge of polish, it still self-levels!  It must have something to do with how the polish bonds to itself.  It’s truly amazing!

Let me tell you, in the middle of wear testing these polishes I took a break and used another brand.  I am not going to name names, but the formula of that “other” polish reminded me of just how freakin’ awesome ME is!

Diary, I can’t wait until tomorrow when I get to show you pictures off all the shades!
Until then!

Pretty Serious Cosmetics CGA - Swatches and Review

Pretty Serious CGAPretty Serious Cosmetics CGA

Pin ItCGA is the last polish from Pretty Serious Cosmetics I have to show you.  This is one of the polishes that Kaz gave for me to try out, and I must say I wasn’t sure if I would like it!  Boy was I wrong!  The shimmer in this polish is amazing!  I applied three sheer coats to achieve the opacity that you see here.

Once again I wasn’t sure what the name CGA meant, so I checked Wikipedia and the Pretty Serious Cosmetics website for the answer.  “Let your nails take you back to when Magenta and Cyan went hand in hand and changed the way we saw our computer screens forever.  CGA pays homage to the humble beginnings of colour computing and the simpler times of a four colour palette!”

CGA can be purchased directly from http://www.pretty-serious.com. for $9.95.  Right now the Australian Dollar and the U.S. Dollar are almost dead on, but this of course could change.  The shipping is not overpriced and my package arrived fairly quickly from Australia!

Pretty Serious Cosmetics VT100

So far I have shown you two shades from the Pretty Serious debut collection, Hello World, and today I will be showing you the third, VT100!  If you aren’t familiar with Pretty Serious cosmetics, click here for my intro to the brand.  If you missed the first two, check out BSOD and Morning Java!

Pin ItI have to admit, I had not idea what the name VT100 referred to - I had to look it up on Wikipedia!   Now that I know what it means, I totally get how it fits in with her Hello World collection!

This happens to be one of the polishes I purhased from Kaz (she was kind enough to send extras) and it is worth every penny!  VT100 is so pigmented!  Could be a one coater but I did two for good measure.  It’s an awesome green shimmer that has the same “lit from with” quality that Morning Java had.

Pin ItI just got home from work and wanted to apply something soothing to my tips.  Barielle Positive ZEN-ergy fit that description to a T!  It’s a yellow based green with a lovely silver shimmer (think the blues from the OPI Holland collection).  Positive ZEN-ergy indeed!
