Pin ItOften times when a new line of polishes is released, one steals the show and all others are forgotten.  This happened at the beginning of 2012 when the new Max Factor Max Effect line was released.  The star of the show, of course, was Fantasy Fire.  The “unicorn pee dupe” was all anyone could talk about.  Luckily for me, a friend of mine who has access to these polishes sent a few additional shades to me when she sent me Fantasy Fire.  One of those was Odyssey Blue.  In the bottle it appears to be blue with a purple duochrome shift.  I never saw that purple on my nails, but nevertheless this is a gorgeous polish that should never be forgotten!

Are you a Dior Diva?

IMG_1141IMG_1142IMG_1144IMG_1149

Pin ItNO?  Why not???  Oh, you don’t know what it is?  Let me tell you!  Dior Diva is a rewards program - like a Gift With Purchase.  Only you save up all your receipts from a 12 month time span, add them up, and send them in.  I first heard about Dior Diva from Olga at makeupacademia, who unfortunately doesn’t seem to be blogger any longer.  She and I had very similar tastes in clothing, skincare, and shoes!

Back to the rewards!  I qualified for the minimum reward of Adorable Diva.  I received four deluxe samples - Capture Totale serum, Dior Show in Blackout, Dior Addict Lipstick in Diorkiss, and J’adore.  I can’t believe how cute the mini Dior Addict is!  Above you can see it compared to my full size Dior Addict, and I actually prefer the smaller size better!  All of these came packaged in a cute mini shopping bag.

I love free things, but I especially love free things I will use!

2012 Halloween polishes ♥ OPI, China Glaze and Orly

Halloween 2012 polishes

I recently got my hands on a few of this year’s Halloween themed polishes, let’s check them out!

OPI So So SkulliciousOPI So So Skullicious 5OPI So So Skullicious 4OPI So So Skullicious 3OPI So So Skullicious Water Decals

First up we have the So So Skullicious set from OPI which includes four mini OPI Nail Lacquers and 10 colorful water decals.  I love the Day of the Dead spin OPI used on the decals instead of the normal witches, cats and bats!  While none of the four colors in this set are very original, they all make a great base for the included decals.  A Rose From the Dead (pink) and Hi, Pumpkin! (orange) applied flawlessly, even with the tiny OPI mini brush.  Morning Glory (black) did not give me any trouble, though it did need two coats.  Candlelight (yellow) was the only polish that required three coats.

I had never used water decals on my nail before, which is what I blame for my application being fairly crooked!  They were very easy to apply, but dried faster than I thought they would.  I look forward to using this set again!   This set was sent to me for review, but I would have bought it on my own - it’s just TOO CUTE!  You can pick it up now at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $12.50

Next we have the China Glaze WICKED set which includes four full size polishes:  Roguish Red, Bizarre Blurple, Glitter Goblin, and Ghoulish Glow.  I almost skipped this set because none of the colors seemed original in the least, but serious “Bizarre Blurple?”  How AWESOME is it that the is a nail polish called Bizarre BLURPLE???  Also, I was interested in the glitter, and for some reason or another I have never owned Ghoulish Glow (which has been released by China Glaze every Halloween since forever).  I loved Glitter Goblin when applied over Bizarre Blurple, it was awesome!  As for Roguish Red, it practically applied itself and it will be a great alternative to an orange base for Halloween manicures.  I picked this set up at Sally Beauty for $9.99.

Orly Right Amount of Evil and RIPOrly Right Amount of Evil and RIP 2Orly Right Amount of Evil and RIP 4Orly Right Amount of Evil and RIP 5Orly Right Amount of Evil and RIP 3

The last two Halloween polishes I picked up this year are from the Orly Spellbound collection, which consists of three Flash Glam FX shades plus Liquid Vinyl (repromote).  I don’t need another black base coat so I skipped Liquid Vinyl, and I almost picked up Monster Mash until I realized they were $7.49 each, so I just stuck with two - The Right Amount of Evil and R.I.P.

The Right Amount of Evil is an orange jelly with both holographic hex and bar glitter.  I have only applied it to my nail wheels, but it applied way nicer than I thought it would!  I wish I could say the same thing for R.I.P.  It was a royal PITA to apply - the base wasn’t quite dark enough and the hex glitter didn’t want to lay flat!  I was hoping R.I.P. would be a replacement for China Glaze Fortune Teller, which I never got my hands on, but it wasn’t.  Not even close!

Have you picked up any Halloween polishes yet?  Which release are you most excited about?

butter LONDON Swatch Spam

This week inadvertently turned into butter LONDON week on polish insomniac.  I didn’t plan it, but all of my posts have been butter LONDON posts!  Between the Lippy/Lacquer set I was sent to review, the Coterie deal and the ULTA BOGO sale, I couldn’t help myself!  I figured what better way to end the week than with some butter LONDON spam?
