For this year’s holiday collection, OPI has released a set of lacquers inspired by the movie the new James Bond movie, Skyfall.
I don’t know about you, Daniel Craig is great and all but he’s no Sean Connery! He is a great deal sexier than Pierce Brosnan though. Who thought that was a good idea? Back to the polish… As always, click on any of the pictures below to enlarge!
GoldenEye is naturally the shining star of the collection. (Did you know that there has been 3 James Bond films with this title?) I didn’t think I would like this type of yellow gold on my skin, but it was actually rather flattering! This is a glitter polish in a clear base, but the glitter is so dense that it is opaque in two coats. It also looks fabulous layered - he I am wearing it over Die Another Day.
The Spy Who Loved Me and Die Another Day are the two token reds of the collection. After all, would it really be an OPI holiday collection without several reds? The Spy Who Loved Me is a blue based red with tiny gold glitter particles throughout. Die Another Day is an orange based red shimmer. The formula on Die Another Day was exceptional - a one coater.
Casino Royale is a plum crème - very sophisticated and sexy. Not much as to say, as it is a crème and we all know OPI knows how to make a great crème formula. You Only Live Twice is a magenta jelly with gold glass fleck - my favorite type of polish! The combination of the magenta base and the gold fleck gives off an appearance that is more of a berry red. I have several of these OPI glass fleck polishes and I love every single one of them.
Skyfall is a maroon crème. I am not quite sure why the namesake of the collection was such a boring shade. It should have been a glitter! The glitter bomb of the collection is The Living Daylights, which is made of up equally shaped gold, silver, copper and teal glitter. As far as glitter polishes go, I have nothing else like it in my collection. Here I paired just one coat of it over Skyfall. It would be interesting to see how many layers would be needed to wear on its own, but I haven’t tried that yet!
Tomorrow Never Dies is a gorgeous purple shimmer polish. I absolutely love this one. It photographs more blue than it actually is, in real life it is much more purple. Moonraker was an absolute horror to apply, every time I added another coat it removed most of the first. I had to swatch it several times before I found a method that worked. I ended up painting only half of my nail at a time - just one stroke of the brush. Then I waited several minutes and applied a second stroke on the other half of my nail. Several minutes later I applied one stroke down the middle. The end result was beautiful, but ultimately not worth the effort.
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is one of my absolute favorite polishes of all time. I am literally mesmerized by it, its like staring at a kaleidoscope of color. It is very similar to Zoya FeiFei (see my comparison here). However, the formula of OHMSS was a breeze and for that reason alone it, rather than Zoya FeiFei, OHMSS has made my Top 20. The World is Not Enough is the bronzey sister of OHMSS. It’s just as mesmerizing. I don’t know quite how to describe these types of polishes… not glitter, not a shimmer… just a mixture of tiny color particles. Hmm….
Live & Let Die is described as jet black… I am not sure where OPI got that description. It is a deep forest green with gold flecks running throughout. It is gorgeous and you HAVE to see it in person. In sunlight, the gold gleams so brightly!
My must haves of the collection: Live & Let Die, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The World is Not Enough and GoldenEye. I also really loved You Only Live Twice and Tomorrow Never Dies. I still haven’t made up my mind about The Living Daylights, but I think its only because I haven’t found the right layering combination yet. What are your must haves from this collection?
