SquareHue December Box ♥ Swatches and Review

SquareHue Champagne Toast 2
SquareHue

Pin ItSquareHue is a new monthly subscription service that makes it easy to stay up to date with the season’s latest “Hues.”

I was excited when I heard there would be an alternative to Julep, as I have issues with their business practices.  I was also excited to here you actually get to "keep" the polishes (I think the company that tried to “rent” polishes flopped).

From the SquareHue website:
Receive three, Full-size, .50oz bottles to Keep - We study color and fashion to bring you the most exciting seasonal color combinations every month.
  • No trial sizes or rental returns to deal with.
  • Discover new and exciting colors.
  • We take the hassle out of choosing colors. All you have to do is brush on the perfect nail color.
Stay Fashionably Up to Date - With a focus on fashion and culture, we curate colors to keep you in style and in season. Each month has a distinct personality to suit a variety of dress needs. Day or evening, casual or luxe, we’ve got you covered.
  • Always fresh colors.

SquareHue graciously provided me a box to review, so let’s take a look!  Click on any of the pictures to enlarge!

The polishes arrived in perfectly sized white cardboard box.  When I opened the box I found the polishes were padded by black packing material.  The polishes were nestled in their own little bed, and under that bed was more black padding.  I really appreciated the attention to detail they provided in shipping.  So many companies (I’m looking at you Beauty.com) will just throw polishes in a large box, maybe with bubble wrap, or maybe with just air pillows.  Not safe!  My SquareHue polishes were definitely safe!

The bottles are an attractive square shape with white handles.  The labels were simple, with the names listed on the bottom of each bottle, along with the month and year they are from.  Mine say “12.12” as they are from the December Santa Luxe collection.  The brush is very small and narrow… if you like Essie brushes, you will like these brushes.

SquareHue Holly Berry 2SquareHue Champagne ToastSquareHue Sugar Plum

On to the colors!  Holly Berry is a bright blue-based red shimmer.  Champagne Toast is a champagne colored shimmer/foil hybrid.  Sugar Plum is a dirty plum shimmer.  All the polishes required only two coats.  The formula on Holly Berry and Sugar Plum were very similar - thin (in a good way) and shiny.  Champagne Toast was surprisingly my favorite.  I loved that it wasn't too warm or too cool, instead it was very neutral and played well with my skin tone.

Now for pricing.  The service is $21.00/month, which isn't bad when you consider most high-end polishes go for between $14 to $18 per bottle.  BUT I have a very special discount code, just for my readers! You can get SquareHue for just $14.99 for the life of your subscription!   Just visit SquareHue.com and type in POLISHINSOMNIAC at checkout.  This promo code will expire on Monday, December 24th.  I don’t get any referrals for you using my code - it’s just a great discount!
