This week’s edition of Makeup Wars is both super fun and super hard – how we store our makeup. I have an entire room that is devoted to makeup and nail polish. It’s basically my beauty room! My computer and TV are in there as well. It’s hard to show you just my makeup storage without showing you my whole room, since the makeup pretty much takes up the whole thing.
Please note – I am not an IKEA affiliate. I just have an IKEA problem. ALL IKEA LINKS are for your convenience only!
A brief overview of the room. This is what it looks like when you first walk in. This was supposed to be the master bedroom, but when we saw the windows we knew it would be perfect for taking product photos and swatches in. The flower decals are from IKEA, but sadly they have been discontinued.
On the right wall I have I “leaning” desk in the corner that used to be my polish station, but now it holds the products I use on a daily basis. The big white desk is my vanity, and I sit there to do my eye makeup. I apply my all my other makeup standing in front of the mirror between my two desks. I’m pretty weird, I know.
On the left wall you will find my short wide Alex under the window. My Malm desk is an L-shape, and my TV is in the corner. I didn’t clean it off for you this time. Keepin’ it real.
Now that you have an idea of the layout of my room, let’s seem to some details, starting with my short wide Alex. On top of the Alex I have a box that I keep some empty product boxes in. Does anyone else keep empty boxes? Beside that I have a black and white Liberty of London for Target box that I keep things that need to be reviewed in. Well, I try to, anyways!
I love the short wide Alex because I can lay all my products flat and actually see what I have.
You can see that I used a few different types of containers to organize each drawer. In my blush drawer I have jewelry organizers I that picked up a long time ago at Marshalls. My bronzer drawer isn’t currently organized very well. I used my empty Glossyboxes in my eye shadow and “random” drawers. In my bottom two drawer I have nail polishes *that aren’t heavy* in Antonius organizers from IKEA. You cannot put heavy polishes in the bottom drawers. I know this because I used to have all my OPI and China Glaze in there and it broke the drawer.
My tall Alex has the majority of my nail polish in it, except my OPI, China Glaze, Revlon, Maybelline and L’Oreals which are in my Helmers. Somehow I missed one of my drawers when I was taking pictures, so one is missing.
Can you tell which brands were in that missing drawer?
On the top of my little desk I have my skincare, foundation and BB creams, all my Revlon lip products (organized in these acrylic holders) and my favorite makeup brushes for face products (in this IT Cosmetics case). On the lower shelf I have hair care products, deodorant, sunscreen and brush cleaner. The surface of the desk is clean now, but it usually littered with my favorite blushes and bronzers. (The one I have in the picture is all Brooke’s fault. After I saw this post I had to buy it!)
I love how long the Besta desk from IKEA is. I have so much stuff on my desk, yet there is still a lot of room. In the winter when I dry my hair my laptop is there too, so I can distract myself. Who else hates straitening their hair?
I have a bunch of inexpensive organizers on the left side of my desk. The little black thing was from the school supplies section at Walmart a few years ago, and it holds the rest of my lip glosses. The long black brush holder is from elf. The Soho double cup brush holder that currently holds eye pencils is also from Walmart. Above my desk, hanging from a Bygel rail you will find the rest of my makeup brushes in super cute pink plastic cups. The little flexible lamps are from IKEA too, they are the best!
In the left drawer I have my lipsticks in various containers (most of them are very inexpensive boxes from the Dollar Spot at Target!) and my most commonly used eye shadow palettes. In the right drawer I have single eye shadows, Q-Tips, eye drops, pencil sharpeners, etc. The pink plastic trays are cheap cutlery organizers, also from Target during back to school a few years ago.
To the left of my computer desk are my two Helmers. On top of them I have an small polish rack that I keep new polishes that I recently purchased, need-to-be-reviewed polishes, and currently my entire butter LONDON collection. I like to rotate out which brand sits in the rack. Sometimes you can’t just leave all your pretties in drawers!
That’s it! I am sure there is more I can show you (like my EXPEDIT – every IKEA addict has an EXPEDIT – DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE PINK ONES NOW?) but I am exhausted! Be sure to check out the rest of the organization ideas from the other Makeup Wars bloggers below!
