Do you have a secret weapon when it comes to your beauty routine? Something that you can rely on, that you can reach for at a moment's notice for that boost of confidence you might need? Mine is, without question, my nails. When my nails look good, I feel good. Not because I want to look nice for others--that’s just a bonus--but because I want to look good for myself. My nails are like a shield. They protect me from feeling blue, from other people's comments, and from my own self-doubt.
If you have been following my blog from the beginning (which was a long time ago!) you may already know that I battle with depression. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but one of the things that got me through the worst of my days was nail polish. Not just the polish itself, but the ritual of it. It soothed me. I began to share my manicures with others, and found a way to communicate with people on the internet like you. I felt like part of a community, a community that does not judge me because I might not be able to get out of my pajamas that day.
There are special polishes that I pull out when I am having one of those rough days. Polishes I know I won’t have to fight with, that will look good without cleanup, and that will last for days. I recently discovered a new polish I will add to my special arsenal: Revlon® Nail Enamel in Iconic.
If you haven’t tried Revlon® Nail Enamel recently, you are in for a treat. The color stays true for days after you apply it. The silk-protein shield formula practically applies itself, eliminating bubbles, streaks and brush marks. I have used polishes that cost $1 and polishes that cost $26 dollars, and this crème formula is up there with the best of the best. After years of doing my nails, I finally managed to free hand a French tip without it looking bad. All I did was hold the brush perpendicular to the free edge of my nail and dragged it across, splitting the brush down the middle.
