Makeup Wars - Favorite Indies

Makeup Wars Favorite Indies

Today’s edition of Makeup Wars is all about our favorite indie brands!  Hopefully by exploring all of our posts, you will discover a few new brands that may become your favorites too!

Favorite Hand Mixed Polish – The Hungry Asian

The Hungry Asian has been mixing polish longer than I have been blogging.  I still have the very first glitterbomb she gave me back in 2010!  Since then she has launched her own Etsy shop where she sells both full size bottles and absolutely adorable minis that come beautifully wrapped every time.  Her Christmas collection* (pictured above) is my favorite yet.  The review of this collection is coming soon, until then you can check out sneak peaks on my Instagram!

Favorite Indie Polish Brand (US) – Cult Nails

The reason Cult Nails is so popular is easy to identify – Maria, the owner of Cult Nails!  She is just so easy going and down to earth and has a great sense of style!  I got to be one of the first people to test the Cult Nails product line when she sent me My Kind of Cool Aid* and I have been a fan ever since.  So of my go-to colors are from Cult Nails.  Whenever I need the following, here’s what I reach for:
Red – Quench* (swatch)
White – Temptest
Black – Nevermore
Some of my favorite glitters are from Cult Nails, like Captivating* and Hypnotizing.   I  feel very lucky to have been gifted my own bottle of Clairvoyant*, aka Unicorn Puke!  I also stock up on their Wicked Fast top coat whenever I get a chance (though for some reason I have yet to try their base coat).

Favorite Indie Polish Brand (International) – Pretty Serious Cosmetics

See how I managed to squeeze a third nail polish brand in there?  Pretty sneaky!

I had a blog crush on Kaz of Pretty Serious Cosmetics way before she launched her own line.  Anytime you feel the need to add some HTF polishes to your wish list, check out her reference guides on Pretty Random!  I have placed several orders from Pretty Serious Cosmetics, and she recently sent me the entire Hit The Road collection for review.  I am always impressed by the Pretty Serious formula, colors and the packaging!  Oh how I love the kitschy packaging!  Some of my favorite from the line include BSOD, VT100, Emma Louise, and Poltergeist Puddle*.  During my next Pretty Serious order, I plan on picking up the entire Till Death Do Us Party set, which includes their new top coat!

Favorite Skin Care Brand – FutureDerm

I love everything about FutureDerm.  This small start-up out of Pittsburgh, PA (Go Steelers!) was founded by Nicki Zevola, a beauty lover and student of Dermatology.  Nicki has managed to create not one but TWO products with ingredients that I never thought my wimpy, dry, sesitive skin could handle - Retinol and Vitamin C!  I've already reviewed FutureDerm Time-Release Retinol 0.5*, and I am currently testing FutureDerm Vitamine CE Caffeic Silk Serum*.  Normally I end up with a horrible reaction from using anything with Vitamin C (and those angry little red bumps are not pretty) but I have been using this product for about two weeks with no reaction!  However, I gotta say the product I am most excited about from FutureDerm is their new Specialist 100% Customizable Moisturizer.  That's right, a custom moisturizer created specifically for YOUR skin!  It's actually quite fun, check out their Customizable Mositurizer Wizard here!

Favorite Bath & Body Brand – Luxury Lane Soap

I found out about this small, Iowa based line through a review on Pink Sith.  They have Tardis-shaped, rose smelling soap.  Need I say more?  Oh yeah, they also have Dalek soap, which I bought my husband for Christmas last year and he loved!
