The Best of the Drugstore - Sally Hansen

Good morning and Happy Monday!  This week the Makeup Wars bloggers are having another BRAND WAR, but this time we are focusing on our favorite drugstore brands!

I thought long and hard about what brand I wanted to write about.  When it comes to makeup, I buy elf, NYX, L’Oreal, Rimmel, the list goes on and on!  But when it comes to nail polish, I asked myself what brand have I been buying from the longest, and that reinvents itself year after year to bring new product to its consumers?  That brand was easy for me to name:  Sally Hansen!

Sally Hansen has been around for ages – since 1957, in fact!  They call themselves America’s #1 Nail Expert for a reason – they carry everything from nail color to nail treatment to nail implements to leg wax!

Sally Hansen was also one of the first brands to bring real nail polish strips to the market with Sally Hansen Salon Effects.  These are the ultimate hacks when it comes to nail art!

Salon Effect come in several fun variations now, including Insta-Gel Strips!  I have been known to pick up Salon Effects whenever I find them on sale.  I miss the Pedicure Strips and have been known to pick them up on eBay!

Sally Hansen has a tendency to change their product lines often, sometimes to the display of nail fanatics around the world.  It’s hard when you fall in love with a line, only to have it disappear!  They also change their bottle shape ALL THE TIME, to the detriment of OCD nail polish collectors around the world.

I mean, how can you line up all of your Sally Hansen in your Helmer or your Alex if the bottles are all different shapes?  My overbearing OCD tendencies have previously caused me to purge awesome polishes from my collection if I only have one or two colors from a line.  (And by purge, I mean give away or swap with a friend, not actually throwing the polish away!).  That is the entire reason I no longer possess Opulent Cloud.  A travesty.

An interesting note – although Sally Hansen’s product lines change all the time, they tend to recycle the packaging with new bottle/cap combos…  See how the bottle from the old Salon Line was used in the short lived Smooth and Perfect line?  And the cap from the already discontinued Luster Shine line was also used in the Gem Crush line that came out around the same time?  And the Gem Crush, Fuzzy Coat, and the Vita Surge lines all were in the old Nail Quencher bottles?

Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser Balm

Treatment products are where Sally Hansen really shines.  My absolute favorite product for keeping my cuticles in check is the Sally Hansen Cuticle Remover+Balm.  I can’t tell you how many of these I have purchased since I first reviewed it!

Here are the Sally Hansen treatments that I pulled out of my drawer:

Those were just a few of the Sally Hansen products I pulled out to share with you today.  I didn't even go into polish colors, because it would have been too overwhelming!  However, you can check out some of my favorites on my Sally Hansen Pinterest Board!
